This month’s Cary Art Loop marks the Cary Gallery of Artists 6th anniversary. On Friday, August 26th from 6-9 PM, come on by for our birthday bash. We will be celebrating our 6th anniversary with cake from the Blue Moon Bakery and lots of other libations. Enjoy the work of 26 local artists featuring wonderful paintings, ceramics, jewelry, and fiber arts. And help us welcome 3 new artists to the gallery: Wendy Musser, an award winning pastel and oil painter; Elda Hisser, an exceptional watercolorist with an eye for nature; and Emily Lees, who creates jazzy modernist ceramics. Try the new shuttle bus (or drive) to Ashworth Village from Page Walker Hotel/Town Hall.

If you haven’t placed a bid yet for local artwork at great prices, come by Cary Gallery of Artists (www.carygallery.org) Monday through Saturday from 11am to 5:30 pm. Bidding will close at 8pm on this month’s Final Friday Artloop, July 29th, at the gallery.

Also featured this month are local glass artist Jean Cheely and painter Betty Packler.  Jean’s show, Glass: The Supercooled Liquid shows exquisite art glass pieces.  Betty’s painting of Bluebirds: My Extended Family!  captures these birds from tiniest babies to adults.  Come see both now!

We are in Ashworth Village next to Chamber’s Arts, who will have their grand opening that night. Our own Kala Tharp will feature her fine paintings that evening as well. Come by for wine and cheese and steel drum music from 6-9pm.

Phyllis Golden Andrews and E. Tracy Williams each had a piece selected for The Artist’s Magazine Annual Art Competition. Phyllis’ painting, Morning View, was selected as a finalist in the landscape/interior category. Ella has an abstract that’s a finalist.

Denise Lincon was awarded 2nd place at a juried competition at Art Exposure Gallery in Hampstead, NC.

Jean Cheely has a glass sculpture, Tokyo In NYC, juried into the Tacoma Museum of Glass’ Red Hot Gala auction in Takoma, Washington.

Betty Packler has been juried into the annual North Carolina Watercolor Society show for the second year. The show will be at Page-Walker in October.

Kristen Stamper recently won first place in the Orange County Silver Arts Show. This qualifies her to compete at the state finals in October. Second place went to one of her students who will also go on to the state finals.

Diana Coidan was juried into the Associated Artists of Southport Summer Exhibition and took 2nd place.

Ana Sumner was selected to create the art for the Lazy Daze 2012 poster. She is the fourth artist from Cary Gallery of Artists to be selected for this honor in the past six years.

This month the Cary Gallery features three artists: Winnie Ferguson, Kristen Stamper and Monica Hunter.

Winnie Ferguson's "Ellen's Quarry"

Winnie created the pieces in her collection, “Earth’s Waters,” over the past year when visiting her favorite waterfront locations. Sunsets at the NC coast in late December inspired awe and paintings that capture the vast water and light of an ocean vista. When painting inland water scenes, Winnie includes other natural elements of foliage, rock or man-made structures to add to the “story.”

Kristen Stamper's "Chasing the Light"

Kristen is presenting a show entitled, “Chasing the Light.” Be it landscape or still life, Kristen Stamper’s bold and colorful oil and acrylic paintings capture the essence of North Carolina’s natural beauty. This collection of paintings combines both studio and “plein aire” compositions, with subjects ranging from native flowers and shells to coastal marshlands and more.

Think Fish! Monica Hunter is featuring a collection of colorful, clever “fishing” inspired jewelry, all handmade original designs. Her work combines sterling silver and other metals with unique patterns, textures, semi-precious stones and pearls to create wearable art for your daily life.

Kathleen announces Small Treasures award winners

The Cary Gallery thanks all the artists who submitted work to our third annual Small Treasures juried show, and an extra thanks to everyone who attended last night’s opening reception. We love showing work from so many talented artists from far and wide, and we are proud to announce the award winners from this year’s show:

Ann Howe's "Ochre Cliffs of Roussillon"

Ann looks at the world in a way that leads to a deep appreciation of landscapes. She often uses her artwork to explore the position of horizons and the way shadows bring out unique features in a landscape. Ever since her girlhood on a farm, she has also noticed the beauty of the form, texture, and variety of fruits and vegetables, and her keen observations result in paintings charged with color and light in which she explores these images.

Jean Scholz's "Along the Lake"

Jean creates exquisite landscapes filled with colorful, shimmering atmosphere. She is an award winning artist who finds inspiration in the light and movement of nature. Although she started painting in oils, she then switched to watercolor. Several years ago she began to explore oils again, painting plein air with a palette knife in an impressionistic style and now works in both media. Jean has received many awards and her paintings are in both national and international collections.
